PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2011, BIOS IS ON THE GERMAN PODIUM
Its name is Produkt des Jahres 2011 (Product of the Year 2011) and it is the much appreciated award organized by the authoritative magazine Fliesen und Platten, the leading magazine on the German market in the field of products and technologies for architectural ceramic applications. Six categories are envisaged: tiles, adhesives, screeds, accessories, tools and CAD systems. To elect the winners, in December 2011 articles illustrating the selected products were published in the special issue of Fliesen und Platten and submitted to the readers’ strict assessment.
Within the tile category, Bios, the innovative antibacterial ceramic manufactured by Casalgrande Padana, met with great success and obtained the third place out of eleven participants. Casalgrande Padana was the only Italian company that received an award and now can use the Product of the year logo in its commercial communication material and all its packaging. The prize was awarded to Michael Brenner, an agent of Casalgrande Padana, on 2nd February 2012 during the third edition of Fliesen und Platten Forum, a conference-exhibition that, in addition to a rich conference programme, offers an exhibition of selected products and technologies to the operators of this sector and is an important event to be updated on the current products and trends in the ceramic sector.
Bios antibacterial ceramics is a line of fully vitrified porcelain stoneware through body tiles, characterized by remarkable antibacterial properties achieved through an innovative production process developed through a research project carried out by Casalgrande Padana in cooperation with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Department of Biomedical Science and Microbiology. After enduring a number of very strict lab tests, the product proved to exceed the standards required since it is capable of removing 99.9% (lower levels are not even considered) of the four main bacteria strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcusfaecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The bactericide action induced by this specific treatment does not change in time, is not subject to wear and does not need light to activate, whereas in the presence of humidity its beneficial properties are further enhanced.
Such results, documented and certified by the University of Modena, confirm the remarkable application potential of the product whenever high hygiene, cleanliness, safety and easy maintenance standards are required, such as: healthcare facilities, analysis and research laboratories, nurseries, kindergartens, schools, swimming pools, sports centres, beauty spas, locker rooms, service rooms, private and collective kitchens, cafeterias, restaurants, food industry and stores, etc.
