Cementine tiles in history

The name “Cementine” stems from the material used to make the tiles: Portland cement. This was very popular in the production of concrete during the industrial revolution, with craftspeople from all over the world using it.
In the early 1900s, the technical and aesthetic qualities of Cementine tiles saw them used for iconic flooring in contemporary architecture projects, especially in the big cities, where - as a result of widespread immigration - tall buildings began to be built. The tiles were also used to refurbish flooring in buildings that had been constructed in previous centuries.
As is so often the case, history has a knack of repeating itself. And sure enough, porcelain stoneware Cementine tiles are back in fashion, bringing a hit of style to our homes.

“We innovate with sensitivity and respect. Knowledge and technology alone are not enough.”

Casalgrande Padana’s Cementine tiles in porcelain stoneware are ecological material created using a carefully calibrated combination of just a few natural elements such as earth, fire, air and water.
