Stile provenzale: come arredare con il gres porcellanato

by Sara Costi

Sophisticated, romantic and vaguely retro, Provençal style is a furnishing cult for both chic and country looks, evoking the allure of old French farmhouses and fields of lavender.

Other characteristic elements are linen or cotton cushions with floral patterns or embroidery; soft, light drapes; country blooms such as buttercups, roses and daisies, as well as jugs filled with dried flowers or herbs; wallpaper or open brick walls to create a relaxing, inviting, rustic atmosphere. The flower par excellence in Provençal style is lavender, featured throughout the home in appealing, fragrant bouquets in the bathroom, in wicker baskets on the living room table, or in cheerful window boxes.

This style suits every area in the home: from the living room and kitchen to the bedroom and bathroom, as well as outdoors. For floors and walls, Provençal style favours stone effects in warm earthy shades, or rectangular and hexagonal terracotta tiles. Another idea is concrete-effect flooring or coverings, in characteristic shades of ash grey.

Living room décor

Provençal style seeks to give the living room an inviting, relaxing, romantic atmosphere, with soft, enveloping padded armchairs and sofas, upholstered in natural fabrics for extra comfort. Dining and coffee tables in wood and wrought iron, chests, sideboards and sophisticated lighting elements come together to add a touch of elegance. Floors will look fabulous with Casalgrande Padana’s Pietra Baugè porcelain stoneware collection. In four soft, slightly shaded colours - beige, sand, light grey and anthracite - the hexagonal tiles are perfect for creating a seamless, decorative effect.

Kitchen décor

Provençal style kitchens are bright, inviting and practical. Great care goes into every detail: from the curtains to the tablecloths, as well as the herbs and spices that share open shelves with copper pots and pans, jars and tins.

For the kitchen floor, Casalgrande Padana proposes the Nature collection of stone-effect porcelain stoneware. Relaxing colours and tones that recall the natural vibrations of the earth team with the outstanding qualities of porcelain stoneware for all kinds of surfaces, both indoors and outdoors.

Kitchen wall coverings, including the backsplash, must be chosen with particular care. As well as looking good, they have to stand up to heat, humidity, grease and wear and tear. An ideal choice for this environment are the porcelain stoneware tiles of the Brickworks collection, in the Nuances and Petra versions. With its colour vibrations and vibrant light effects, the Nuances range of porcelain stoneware coverings comes in eight shades (from intense greens and blues to neutral black and white) and two surface finishes that are opposites in terms of light reflection, satin and polished.

With imperfect veining effects on delicate earthy and sandy shades, the stone-effect stoneware wall tiles in the Brickworks Petra collection team the natural beauty of quartzite with the resistance and versatility of porcelain stoneware. Reminiscent of the skilful building methods of times gone by, this stoneware covering, in the stone-effect variant, recreates the colours and structures of stone to bring a uniquely classy allure to residential buildings.

Bathroom décor

It doesn’t take much to bring a Provençal touch to the bathroom: a relaxing iron bathtub, a few wrought iron details, a large mirror, a wooden bench, some candles and fragrant bath salts. For the floors and walls, the ideal choice are small porcelain stoneware tiles with a retro pattern, such as those in Casalgrande Padana’s Opus collection. The elegant geometric patterns and soft shades are the perfect complement to vintage furnishes, for a touch of traditional charm.

A Provençal look outdoors

For outdoor areas - terraces, porticos, patios or spacious verandas - Provençal style favours wicker and wrought iron furnishing sets, featuring chairs, benches, tables and gazebos, along with linen and cotton drapes, decorative lanterns and birdcages, and fragrant herbs and flowers arranged in tin or terracotta vases.

The excellent technical qualities of stone-effect porcelain stoneware make it ideal for tiling outdoor floors and walls. Ideal for floors is Casalgrande Padana’s Petra collection. Imperfect veinings and delicate earthy and sandy shades join forces with the elegance of quartzite, for tiles that are versatile, resistant and frost-proof.

The walls here have been tiled with the Brickworks Muretto stoneware collection. The delicately shaded pattern and variety of laying options (from the staggered horizontal pattern reminiscent of brickwork to a geometric pattern with overlapping joints) make Brickworks an appealing décor element.

Guaranteed and certified, Casalgrande Padana ceramic tiles are among the most versatile options modern design has to offer. Made exclusively from natural raw materials, free from plastic and harmful substances, Casalgrande Padana porcelain stoneware is non-absorbent, frost-proof, fully recyclable, fire-resistant, non-allergenic, and antibacterial (thanks to the exclusive Bios Antibacterial® treatment, available on request). It does not alter over time, and is easy to lay and to clean.
