Pool covering: Amazzonia Dragon Black

June 2022 saw the completion of the private swimming pool for collective use belonging to Podere Necione, an agritourism facility in Asciano, in the province of Siena. The pool was designed by the architect Martha Mezzedimi, who took third place in the Residential Buildings category of the 13th edition of the Grand Prix.

The aim of the project was to create a pool that would blend smoothly into the steep slope of the surrounding landscape. The construction of a pool was a priority for the agritourism, allowing the facility to offer a superior standard of hospitality for tourists. The pool is located within the area belonging to Podere Necione, on a strip of sloping land between the row of trees alongside the road to the north and the olive grove to the south.

With a depth of 1.25 metres, a width of 3.60 metres and a total length of 27 metres, including the steps leading into it, all the surfaces of the pool in contact with water (the interior, overflow and drainage channel) were tiled using the <a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.casalgrandepadana.com/product/amazzonia" style="color:#467886; text-decoration:underline">Amazzonia</a> porcelain stoneware collection, in the colour Dragon Black, which recalls the surrounding countryside.

The systems of the heated pool, with a built-in roller cover, were created with the environment in mind, in accordance with all the indications necessary to ensure energy efficiency. The in-ground pool required the installation of piles to contain the sloping land alongside the cypress trees; this maintained the buffer area around the trees, an element of the landscape that must be preserved.

The extraordinary beauty of the landscape and the area the pool is located in set the rules for a responsible design project, the aim of which from the outset was to integrate the new elements into the surroundings. Account of this was taken in the installation, shape and choice of materials.
